Synopsis

In the near future Scotland has been left a post-apocalyptic wasteland, due to a plague that has swept the country. Ordinary people struggle to survive from day to day.  As a result of the plague witches now walk among us, hunted down and forced to stand trial by specialist freelance witch-hunters.

One such witch-hunter is Thomas Mackie who, along with his talking dog Dex, hunts for only one reason – to earn enough bounty to have a better life. Things take an unexpected turn when Mackie’s latest target, Miranda Lee, blackmails him into helping her act out a dangerous plot to cure the plague once and for all.

Plagued: The Miranda Chronicles is the first sci-fi/fantasy comic book to be published by Black Hearted Press.

Black Hearted Press had a birthday!

So we had a birthday and yeah, we are now 4 years old! We threw a party on Sunday night in the awesome Cocktail and Burger on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow, some very nice beers, amazing cocktails and some of the best burgers available in the city. I think there was more than a couple of sore heads on Monday morning, but was great to see so many friends of the company including one of the original founders David Braysher. There was an impressive turn out of artists that have worked on our titles over the years also and there was a very exciting reason for this… we launched our very first comic art exhibition that night!

The art exhibition is on for the next month and a half in Cocktail and Burger and features artwork from all of our main titles. Fire down and enjoy a beer and burger and have a look at these stunning pieces from our impressive pool of artists including work from Dave Alexander , David Braysher, Chris Connelly, Thomas Crielly, James Devlin, Paul Hempstead, John Howard, Morag Kewell, Jason Mathis, Sha Nazir, Will Pickering, Brian Rankin, Alex Ronald & Neil Slorance. Prints of these pieces are available to buy from our online store and there is details of prices etc in the bar also.

A big thank you to everyone that has been a part of BHP the last four years, the artists and writers, printers, contributors, press, the CCA, Cocktail and Burger, Grey Wolf Graphics and most importantly you the fans that buy our books and come to our events!

Here’s to the next four years.

Submit your work for 2014

PostHeaders_470x140_01
Open Submission guidelines to BHP comics.

Things that we need to know.

1. Who is working on the book/comic? Where they are based?

2. A short synopsis- a paragraph or two about the work. What’s it about? How does the story unfold?

3. A digital example of the work to date (please send it via a Dropbox or a large file download site)

4. Is it black and white or colour? A one-off, a mini-series or something you see as ongoing? Generally we’re looking for comic books with a 22-28 (18 – 24 pages of story) page count or Graphic Novel 66 to 96 pages. But there can be exceptions.

Things you need to know.

1. We don’t make superhero comics (unless this is the best idea ever, and no one has ever made anything like it or even remotely similar to it.. ever)

2. We are creator owned, as a result we don’t ‘buy’ the works from the maker. You’d retain the majority of the rights to the title, dependant on the contract terms.

3. We prefer complete creator teams, we don’t match up artists and writers.

4. We’re open to any genre. Comedy, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, westerns, real-life, crime, romance… just not the guys in capes and tight pants. Unless, y’know… it’s the best idea ever. Ideally we’re looking for mature and well structured genre stories. That doesn’t mean that it can’t be crazy or funny or off-the-wall, but things like Image’s Revival or Saga would be right up our street. If only…

5. Please don’t send us copies of original artwork in the post. Thank you.

To submit your work, in the first instance answer questions 1 to 4 in an email with a Dropbox link to samples of the work to bhpeditor@gmail.com
